HISTORY OF 4CG
In 2013, regional collaboration between county-wide economic development organizations began when Ottawa and Sandusky Counties invited Erie and Huron Counties to meet to discuss planning cooperative events and activities to celebrate Manufacturing Month (October).
On October 24, 2014, Erie, Huron, Ottawa, and Sandusky Counties held the first of many coordinated events with Manufacturing Showcase Bus Tours. Each county economic development organization hosted bus tours to manufacturing facilities for educators to introduce them to the manufacturing environment and viable manufacturing careers available to youth. The event was extremely successful!
Seneca County joined the effort in 2015, bringing the collaboration to five counties. On October 30, 2015, the group hosted โWelcome to the Generational Talent Jungleโ at Kalahari Convention Center with speaker John Grubbs.
On June 24, 2016, the five-county group held another speaker event, โTalent Managementโ Behind โEmployeeโ Linesโ with Retired General Gregory J. Ihde, USAF who shared his experiences in successfully managing the talent trifecta.
To celebrate Manufacturing Month in 2016, all five counties held Manufacturing/Career Showcase events. Huron and Erie Counties partnered with EHOVE Career Center for the first Future Makers Manufacturing Showcase Event. Each county continues to host these showcase events each year providing ninth grade students the opportunity to experience the manufacturing environment and skill sets through interactive stations designed by businesses within the county.
In September 2018, Erie County opted to put its efforts into the Firelands Partnership and decided to leave the group. The remaining four counties started to work on a draft proposal for an economic development and workforce development analysis and strategic plan to include a wage and benefit survey.
4CG WORKFORCE INITIATIVE
In February 2019, the economic development and workforce development proposal was finalized. FULL funding for the first phase (the analysis) was committed in April so the group issued the RFP for the consulting firm to head up the effort. In June 2019, Poggemeyer Design Group was awarded the project.
The four-county collaboration decided on an โofficialโ name of 4CG which stands for 4 County Group 4 Collaborative Growth. A logo was developed for the group as well.
On September 11, 2019, 4CG held a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats) Analysis at Terra State with 53 participants from all four counties.
In October, November, and December 2019, 4CG held focus group meetings by industry sectors to allow us to dive deeper into the issues specific to each industry. The eight industry sectors are: 1) Agriculture, 2) Healthcare, 3) Construction, 4) Manufacturing, 5) Service/Travel/Tourism, 6) Transportation/Logistics, 7) Education, and 8) Davis Besse.
In November and December 2019, governmental and business leaders were invited to participate in key person interviews to provide additional insight into the process and plan development.
December 2019/January 2020
To complete data collection and provide all citizens and businesses the opportunity to provide input for the development of this economic development and workforce development strategy, various surveys are available. Your feedback is respectfully requested. Please consider completing this survey and sharing with others to help us develop appropriate priorities. We sincerely appreciate your honesty, time, and desire to support regional growth!
January 2020
Visioning meeting planned for four-county group to incorporate the details and start putting together the implementation phase (Phase II).
4CGโs consultant, Poggemeyer, will provide assistance in obtaining funding for Phase II of the project implementation, thereby minimizing the need for financial assistance (if any) from the economic development organizations, counties, communities, and businesses of our four-county region.
March 2020
With over ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฌ surveys & in-person interviews, as well as 8 industry specific focus groups completed in the 4-county region (๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป, ๐ข๐๐๐ฎ๐๐ฎ, ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐๐ธ๐, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฎ) over the last year, we are finalizing our fully funded visioning/data gathering plan and moving into the action/implementation stage.
We had amazing feedback from all our communities, and we are confident in the economic development strategic plan, workforce development strategic plan, and our wage and benefit survey to move our region forward. We have met with multiple organizations & individuals that are interested in funding our implementation phase for our region.
January 2021 Update
4CG worked with Northwestern Ohio counties to hold its first Virtual Career Fair on January 13th. There were over 115 job-seekers registered to attend and many Advanced Manufacturing Businesses. This was one of our first steps/events to take place for our area. Stay tuned for a โSeniorโ Virtual Career Fair in April 2021 for our area schools using this same platform. Our employers that utilized this found it very user friendly and enjoyed being able to build their own booths to showcase their business.

One of our goals is to strengthen and/or add to the resources we already have available in our counties. We donโt want to create something that already exists. Take a look at our completed plan and please feel free to reach out with ideas or offers to join committees moving forward.
