EHOVE Career Center and Huron County Development Council are hosting the fifth annual FutureMakers event on Tuesday, Oct. 5 and Wednesday, Oct. 6 at EHOVE.
This showcase will feature 30 area companies that will educate ninth graders from Erie and Huron counties about viable trades and manufacturing career pathways.
There continues to be a local shortage of skilled workers within the trades and manufacturing industries. These industries have a great impact on the local economy. In order to create awareness and interest in these industries, career exploration activities such as FutureMakers are being coordinated in partnership with local workforce and economic development entities.
Despite innovative advancements and considerable opportunity, manufacturing still battles with outdated perceptions of menial jobs in dirty environments. Today’s reality is a growing industry with technologically demanding positions, such as machinists who use 3D software to model products, engineers who manipulate elements to create material, or technicians who automate assembly with robotics.
On this interactive, hands-on day, the students will learn about the professional and technical skill sets needed to successfully pursue careers in this industry. Activities simulating techniques in welding, electrical, assembly, CNC, and robotics will be highlighted.
Employers interested in participating in the event should contact EHOVE Business Community Manager Elaine Colvin at EColvin@EHOVE.net or 419-499-4663 x344. The event is otherwise not open to the public.

Let’s share the Love of Christ with our community this Christmas. From now until December 20th we will be collecting Night Before Christmas bags. These special bags will include everything a family needs while they await the birth of our Savior. A cozy blanket, a board game and/or movie, some snacks and of course a storybook of Jesus’ birth! Our goal is to collect 40 bags and then on the 22nd we will be going door to door in some of our underserved communities, singing carols and giving these gifts and a blessing! Let us know if you’d like to join us in caroling, making a Night Before Christmas bag or message us for more details! Everyone is welcome. Let’s remind our community of what Christmas is really about!
